"When I tell people I have been painting, they ask" which room in the house?" so I classify myself with 'canvases'. I don't know if the paintings I create are Art, you can decide for yourself, all I know is I have a love and sometimes hate relationship with the paint and canvas and argue with them constantly when I try to paint the beauty I see in the world around me and from my imagination."
Hi, my name is Jackie Berg and I am a 50 something mother and grandmother (I prefer Nona to Nanna or grandma). I live in 
rural north east Victoria, Australia with my husband, two dogs and a cat. If I am at home I am painting.
My first memory of anything to do with art was when I was about 7 or 8 and staying at my aunt and uncles place in Hounslow, London. I used to go with my aunt to her hair salon just down the street and while she was busy cutting, and perming, I was busy drawing and painting ballerina's. I loved the delicate nature of their bodies and how they could stand on the tips of their toes. I always loved drawing and painting. So I dabbled, just like my mum.
My aunt took me to exibitions in London, and I was amazed at how with a few brush strokes, artists could render life as they saw it on a canvas
About 20 years ago, (gee how time flies when your raising a family), I was lucky enough to be able to take art lessons from a local art teacher David Hadley. I learned the basics in Oils, painting landscapes and seascapes and I became a member of the Rutherglen & District Artist's Society Inc. My life got complicated and busy as families have a way of doing, so I dabbled once again, turning some of my paintings into cross stitch, and some I gave as presents to family and friends. But I have been painting on and off for most of my life, you could say I am mostly self taught.
Now, I paint in acrylic's and oils, and as you can see, I enjoy painting a wide range of subjects, still life, animals, sea scapes, portraits (in black and white), cars and landscapes.
I, like many, paint because I love it, and I might not take the art world by storm but my dream is to become a full time artist.
